This year’s ‘Scáthán’ launched in DCU 27 April 2018

The 2018 edition of Dublin City University’s Irish annual was launched this week.

Liam Carson and Dairena Ní Chinnéide were on hand this Thursday 26 April as special guests to launch Scáthán 2018. Ní Chéinnide – who is currently Writer in Residence at the institutions – recited the poem ‘Mórtas Cinte’, a poem written in honour of the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins.

Among the editors for the publication is Caoimhe Nic Lochlainn, who has also written a piece herself which is found in Scáthán. In the piece, she describes the ‘Scéalta le hinsint don ghealach’ project, and the finished book that has come to life as a result.

‘Bhí mé ag iarraidh go mbeadh beocht agus fuinneamh sna scéalta, greann agus dialóg agus friotal nua-aimseartha. Léigh mé leaganacha éagsúla de roinnt mhaith scéalta agus roghnaigh mé na píosaí is mó a thaitin liom ar mhaithe le mo scéalta féin, agus ar ndóigh, tá saoirse áirithe ag an athinsteoir, mar sin bhain mé úsáid as mo shamhlaíocht féin chomh maith!’

You can read all of Caoimhe’s article online right now over at scathan.ie/2018/ag-insint-scealta-don-ghealach/ or indeed you can have a look at Scáthán in full on the main site at scathan.ie.
