READ: Tuairisc.ie review of ‘Ainmhithe na hÉireann’ 12 April 2018

‘Poetic, simple Irish and beautiful illustrations in a new book about Irish wildlife.’

We are delighted with the very first review of our new publication: Ainmhithe na hÉireann. This is a translation of Juanita Browne’s My First Book of Irish Animals (Browne Books, 2014). Fidelma Ní Ghallchobhair translated the text. Méabh Ní Thuathaláin from Tuairisc.ie has written a review of the book and we are overjoyed that she is enjoying it so much!

‘Leabhar é atá dírithe ar pháistí óga a bheadh sé bliana d’aois nó os a chionn, ach más comhartha ar bith é an oiread dúile a bhí agam féin ann, measaim go mbainfeadh aon duine sásamh agus tairbhe as na blúiríní beaga eolais agus na léaráidí uiscedhatha áille atá ar fáil ann.’

Aoife Quinn provided the illustrations for the original title and for this translation. One of our main goals with the translation was to give the artwork space to breathe, despite the translated text being somewhat longer than the initial English:

‘Is maith liom mar a cuireadh an t-eolas a bhain le gach ainmhí i láthair thar dhá leathanach. Tugadh tús áite do na léaráidí tarraingteacha agus fágadh spás go leor do na fíricí éagsúla. Is mór an cuidiú é sin don pháiste a bheadh ag iarraidh a chuid féin a dhéanamh den eolas.’

We are of course very much looking forward to more reader reviews. The book is available directly from our website – just click on the book cover below! It should also be available in the shops shortly; if your local bookshop doesn’t have it in stock yet, why not consider asking them to order it in? Our distributors are ÁIS (ais [at] forasnagaeilge.ie).
